Measure diameter with AI and camera

Johan Ekenstedt

If you have an iPhone without LiDAR, we have great news for you.

In the latest release of our app Arboreal Forest, you can now measure a tree’s diameter more accurately using AI.

Previously, the user had to align two red lines with the edges of the tree—which often introduced user-related errors. Different users aligned the lines differently, resulting in inconsistent measurements.

Now the app identifies the edges automatically, ensuring that measurements are performed the same way every time.

The accuracy is surprisingly close to what you’d get with LiDAR. Of course, LiDAR still provides more precise results since it excels at estimating distances throughout the environment.

You can enable this new feature in the app’s settings.
