Arboreal Forest now supports Emlid Reach RX

Arboreal Forest just became even more powerful.
We have now added full support for the external GNSS receiver Emlid Reach RX, making it possible to capture high-accuracy global positions directly in the field.
How it works
Every tree in Arboreal Forest already gets a local position based on AR and LiDAR. With the Reach RX connected, the app can now calculate the global position of the center of the tree by combining:
- GNSS position from the Reach RX
- The bearing from the camera to the tree
- The distance to the tree
- The radius (diameter / 2) of the tree
This gives a precise estimate of the actual location of the stem center.
Why this is useful
Accurate global coordinates open up new possibilities:
- Revisit old sample plots with confidence — even years later
- Fuse ground data with UAV or aerial imagery, making analysis and interpretation much easier
- Improve long-term monitoring and high-precision forest planning
Our tests show that, with good accuracy from the GNSS, the tree position is typically within just a few decimeters.
Looking forward: Reach RX2
We are also excited about the new Emlid Reach RX2, which promises even better performance under canopy. We look forward to testing it soon and bringing even more accuracy to forest measurements.
